Staff Positions, Afghanistan War Commission

The Afghanistan War Commission is actively seeking qualified candidates to fill a variety of roles at all levels on the commission’s research, operations, and communications teams. Positions are expected to be full time, in-person, and based in Washington, D.C. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

We are looking for candidates for the following roles (updated November 2024): 

  • Team Chief, Intelligence Assessments – Lead the research team primarily responsible for creating and maintaining key relationships within the intelligence community; identifying, gaining access to, and analyzing key intelligence products throughout the war; and identifying and analyzing the key decisions made by al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and the Islamic State, and the efficacy of their actions in support of their goals.   • Team Chief, Counterterrorism Team – Lead the research team primarily responsible for producing a CT decision history that identifies and analyzes CT policies and objectives, key decisions associated with CT policy and operations, and the efficacy of CT actions against al-Qaeda, the Islamic State, and the Taliban.   • IT Specialist/Network Admin – Responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating activities designed to ensure, protect, and restore the AWC IT systems, services, and capabilities; monitor and evaluate AWC systems’ compliance with IT security requirements; and provide advice and guidance on implementing IT security policies and procedures in the development and operation of AWC networks.
